Rev. Colin C. Cress
Pastor Colin was appointed to First UMC in July 2015. He grew up in Terre Haute, Indiana, thinking he’d make a career in engineering, and maybe one day go into ministry. But after growing up in The United Methodist Church, and being formed in faith and working for a United Methodist congregation while in college, God’s call became clearer and more immediate.
If any of the engineer is left in him, Colin appreciates making things work, and keeping them working. Personal faith is one of those things that requires use, attention, testing, and continuous improvement. Likewise, the work of congregations is the work of faithful people together, and we can always make good changes to keep our faith alive and sustainable.
Colin has served at Carrollton UMC, Folsom Memorial and Freedom UMCs, and Plainfield UMC, prior to coming to Shelbyville. Colin’s wife, Heather, is on staff at Bradley UMC, and is beginning the process for ministry herself. Colin and Heather have a son and a daughter who are both wonderful. Some of the Cresses’ favorite things about Shelbyville are walking downtown, the great schools, and eating at El Meson.
