Rev. Colin C. Cress
Pastor Colin was appointed to First UMC in July 2015. He grew up in Terre Haute, Indiana, thinking he’d make a career in engineering, and maybe one day go into ministry. But while growing up in The United Methodist Church, growing in faith while in college, working for a United Methodist congregation, and listening a little better to God’s call, ministry became his first love and interest. He has pastored churches since 2003, and currently serves here at First and at Fairview UMC in Fountaintown.
If any of the engineer is left in him, Colin appreciates getting things to work, and keeping them working. Faith is one of those things that, to work well, requires regular use, attention, and continuous improvement.
Prior to coming to Shelbyville, Colin served at Carrollton UMC, Folsom Memorial and Freedom UMCs, and Plainfield UMC. Colin’s wife, Heather, is a pastor at Bradley UMC in Greenfield. Colin and Heather have a son and a daughter who are both wonderful. Some of the Cresses’ favorite things about Shelbyville are walking and shopping downtown, the great schools and the friends their kids have made, and eating at Cholula or one of the other great places here.
